MULTIMODAL TRANSPORTATION

COMFORT AND BALANCE

The Optimal Logistics company provides the services of multimodal transportation for goods from remote geographical zones.

This transportation method involves several types of transport, allowing to reduce the total delivery cost and time.

Multimodal transport involves the alternate use of different transport types at each stage of the cargo journey.

Advantages of multimodal transport

  • Proven schemes of interaction with trusted partners allows the delivery in the shortest possible time.
  • Flexible pricing policy of cooperation with regional representatives (including the largest maritime transport companies) affords to set an attractive price for this service.
  • Continuous monitoring at each stage of multimodal transportation allows to provide customers with timely information about the cargo condition and location, promptly adjust the design of accompanying documents and ultimately strictly maintain the agreed delivery time.

Multimodal transportation involves several types (a combination) of cargo transportation. Cargo is transported in a transport container.

Containers, being a loading space, have different parameters and types, which include:

  • Standard containers of 20 and 40 feet;
  • High – capacity containers, 40 HC and 45 ft.;
  • Refrigerated Containers of various capacities;
  • Open-top containers;
  • Container platforms;
  • Tank-containers for liquid cargo transportation

Multimodal transportation is carried out by combining different transport types. Thus, its geography significantly exceeds any other types of cargo transportation. Usually, when organizing multimodal transportation, a combination of sea, rail and road transport is used. In rare cases, multimodal transportation includes air transport, which is usually used for high-speed cargo delivery or delivery to remote geographical areas without other transport connection.

For convenient use of multimodal transportation, they distinguish the main cargo transportation "shoulder" and the used transport type:

In the first case, the main arm of transportation is to transport the container by sea in combination with road and / or rail transport. In the second case, it is transportation by railway in combination with road and/or sea transport.

Thus, it is easier to consider both the cargo delivery terms and transportation cost

Maritime multimodal transport is used for the goods’ delivery from countries with an actively developed maritime communication system:

  • Countries of Southeast Asia, including China, Korea, Japan, etc.;
  • Countries of South and North America;
  • Middle Eastern countries

The exit point is the departure port in the departure country, and the entry point is the internal Russian port or the ports at the Baltic Republics and Finland:

  • ВVladivostok;
  • Saint Petersburg;
  • Novorossiysk;
  • Riga;
  • Tallinn;
  • Klaipeda;
  • Kotka;
  • etc.

We work with all these ports, so during multimodal sea transportation we are primarily guided by the Client's wishes regarding the delivery terms and cost.

When choosing multimodal delivery by sea, market participants are guided by:

  • Relatively cheap shipping cost per cargo unit;
  • Low risk of insured events.

Railway multimodal transport is used for the goods’ delivery from countries with a developed railway transport infrastructure. Today, this applies more to China and Mongolia. From China, as one of Russia's largest trading partners, a significant cargo part is delivered by railway transport in combination with road delivery.

Over the past few years, railway tracks have been laid to all of China's major commercial areas, including port areas.

The exit point of railway transportation is the sending station in the countries of the goods’ origin, and entry point is an internal or cross-border railway station at the Russian Federation.

"Optimal logistics" organizes the cargo receptionat the stations:

  • Zabaikalskaya
  • Vorsino
  • Khovrino
  • Silikatnaya

As a rule, these are the most important logistics hubs of the goods’ railway transportation from China.

ЖRailway multimodal transportation differs from sea transportation by significantly better transit times, under the same conditions of cargo reliability and safety, since it is moved in the same way in Containers as in sea transportation. However, the railway track is more expensive than the sea one.

Therefore, cargo delivery from China by rail is preferred by market participants who are guided by:

  • Relatively fast delivery times, not exceeding 25-35 days;
  • Low risks of insurance events.
